Sun Lizard Solar Heat Extractor -- How Effective Is It?

Works all day and night

Moves air at 6m3//min

100 Cooler in Summer

By removing up to 6m3/minute of hot air and replacing it with cooler air from another part of the building, your room will be up to 10 degrees cooler during summer with the added benefit of better ventilation.

Reduces reliance on air conditioners

Just a 2-3 degree change in temperature through the movement of air is often sufficient to eliminate the need for additional mains powered cooling. A typical air conditioner used just during the hottest summer days will use around 3000kw/h of energy per year, representing approximately $420 in running costs and about 4 tonnes CO2E (brown coal power generation).  The solar heat extractor will eliminate the need for additional cooling except on the very worst days.  Payback would be only a couple of years.

Keeps your building’s thermal mass cooler

This simple system will not only keep the air temperature in the building cooler but also the building’s thermal mass, including the bricks, tiles, furniture. Thermal mass when exposed to heat, absorbs the heat and continue to radiate heat into the building during the night. By keeping the thermal mass cooler through our heat extractor, it reduces this heat from radiating into the space you live and work in.

It is important to know how much sun you receive each day in your local area. In most parts of Australia, during the hotter months, there are around 8 hours of clear skies per day when there will be sunshine to power the solar powered fans.  In winter this is about 5 hours. Most part of Australia get enough sun to provide a significant amount of solar electricity for cooling.

Detailed climatology map - Average Annual sunshine hours

To find the potential amount of hours the Sun Lizard Solar Heat Extractor can work for you in providing free cooling and ventilation visit the Bureau of Meteorology website, where you can view maps of the average daily sunshine hours for each area of Australia.
From there, you can observe the number of sunlight hours received for your local area over each month, year or season.
